About Simpson Strong-Tie Outdoor Accents Sage
Sage turns standard 4×4 or 6×6 lumber into a pergola with a set of modular connectors. The pieces are ZMAX galvanized steel in black powder coat with an open-top design: Sage-C corner connectors (sets of two), Sage-B post bases (sets of two with concrete anchors) and Sage-T middle-T connectors for double-bay pergolas. Sage-Shade sunshades in 8×8 and 10×10 come in two colors and are sold separately.
Connectors fit nominal lumber up to 3-5/8 in for 4×4 and 5-5/8 in for 6×6. Color-matched 1-1/2 in connector screws and a 1/4 in hex driver bit are included, and the post base 2-pack includes 16 Titen Turbo anchors. On wood decks, solid blocking is required. Simpson recommends considering knee bracing for pergolas over 8 ft tall, bays over 10 ft, solid roofs or high wind, and checking local codes for permits.
