Ameristar rates the Sentinel wedge barrier M50/K12, able to stop a 15,000 lb truck at 50 mph. It sits flush with the roadway and has no side pillars, so the lane looks open when the barrier is down.
The shallow-mount design needs 19 in of excavation in total, 12 in for the barrier and 7 in for the foundation pad. The guard height is 38 in, and the barrier comes in various widths to fit the lane. The hydraulic cylinder is concealed behind a tamper-resistant panel. Finish options are black and yellow stripes or red and white stripes.
Security consultants and facility managers use the Sentinel at entrances where crash protection is needed but deep excavation is not practical. We quote it from the project specification.
