About Galvanized Chain Link

Galvanized chain link is steel wire with a zinc coating applied either before weaving (GBW) or after weaving (GAW), so cut ends are coated too. Aluminum-coated steel is also available for commercial and industrial work. Fabric is manufactured to ASTM standards, including A392 for zinc and A491 for aluminum.

You choose fabric by wire gauge, mesh size, height, roll length and coating class. Common gauges are 9, 11 and 11.5, and the 2 in mesh is most common, with 1 in, 1-3/4 in and 2-1/4 in also available. Heights run 3 ft to 12 ft on 20 ft or 50 ft rolls. Warranty terms depend on the mill that supplies your order, and we confirm them on your quote.

Galvanized fabric works for homes, schools, plants, ball fields and storage yards. For a quote, send gauge, mesh, height, coating type and total footage, plus framework needs. Axiom South ships to all 50 states.

Installation notes
  • Terminal posts (end, corner, gate) must be set in concrete or otherwise anchored to resist tension.
  • Stretch fabric from one terminal post to the other, then tie to line posts and rails with fence ties.
  • A bottom tension wire can limit movement at the bottom of the mesh; hog-ring the fabric to it about every 2 ft.
  • A top rail is common but optional if terminal posts are braced and a top tension wire is used; fences 10 ft or taller often add intermediate rails.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a top rail?

Not always. A top tension wire can replace a top rail when terminal posts are braced correctly, but taller fences often add intermediate rails.
