About Structural Framing
Structural framing is the skeleton of a deck, porch, pergola or pavilion: the posts, beams, joists and ledgers that carry everything above. Framing can be pressure-treated lumber, steel or aluminum, and the choice affects lifespan, maintenance and how flat the finished surface stays. Steel framing is increasingly used for decks and structures where owners want long life and resistance to rot and termites, especially in humid coastal areas.
This page includes Fortress Evolution Deck Framing, Fortress Evolution Stair Framing, Fortress Evolution Tile Tray and TimberTech Aluminum Framing. Fortress Evolution is a steel framing system, and the Tile Tray lets the frame carry a tile or paver surface. TimberTech Aluminum Framing is a lighter metal option. Metal framing usually costs more than wood upfront but resists rot, termites and warping. Framing design must follow your plans, so check local code and the manufacturer's installation guide.
How to choose
- Are you framing a deck, stairs or a tile or paver surface?
- Do you prefer steel or aluminum framing?
- Does your project have engineered plans or a permit set?
- How exposed is the site to moisture, termites and salt air?
- Will the decking or roof system require specific framing?
- Confirm framing lead times, since they set the whole schedule.
