Split Rail & Specialty Wood (Poplar / Locust)
Poplar and locust split rail fencing with tapered rails set into mortised posts, for farms, large lots, trails and rustic property-line fences.
About Split Rail & Specialty Wood (Poplar / Locust)
Split rail fence has a rustic, open look that suits farms and large properties. The rails are tapered at the ends and inserted into holes in the posts, which gives the fence its classic interlocking appearance and keeps the build simple for a crew.
We supply split rail in two species. Poplar is treated for longer life, and locust is naturally resistant to rot. Rails span about 10 ft, and posts in the poplar and locust layout are set at 10 ft 4 in on center. Fences can be built with two or more rails depending on the look and the job.
Split rail is common along driveways, pastures, trails, parks and HOA common areas. When you request a quote, tell us the species, the number of rails per section, linear footage, and how many line, corner and end posts you need, plus any gate openings.
