Overview

About PVC Decking

PVC decking is made entirely of cellular PVC, without the wood fiber found in composite boards. Because it does not absorb water, it is a common choice for docks, pool decks, boathouses, screened porches and other spots that stay wet or shaded. PVC boards are usually lighter than composite and resist mold, rot and insects. Along the coast, owners often look at PVC where splash, humidity and salt air are part of daily life.

This page includes Trex Refuge and four TimberTech Advanced PVC collections: Vintage, Landmark, Harvest+ and Harvest. Harvest and Harvest+ sit at the more budget-minded end of the TimberTech range, while Landmark and Vintage are upper tiers with more detailed color and grain. Trex Refuge is the Trex PVC option for buyers who want to stay with that brand. Compare samples side by side for color, grain and surface heat, and plan on routine washing rather than staining.

How to choose

  • Will the deck be wet often, such as by a pool, dock or boathouse?
  • Are you comparing PVC to capped composite on price or performance?
  • How hot will the surface get in direct afternoon sun?
  • Which grain and color match the house and railing?
  • Have you allowed for board expansion per the manufacturer's installation guide?
  • Confirm lead times for your chosen color and board length.
