Barbless / Smooth Wire
Barbless smooth wire for livestock fences, electric fence lines and bracing, offered in high-tensile and low-carbon grades for farms, ranches and fence builders.
About Barbless / Smooth Wire
Smooth wire is a single plain strand with no barbs. Farmers use it for livestock fences, electric fence lines and bracing. A cattle fence can be built from 4 or 5 strands of barbless or barbed wire at a minimum height of 60 in.
Choosing the grade comes first. High-tensile smooth wire is strong and stays tight, while low-carbon wire is softer and easier to handle. 12.5 gauge is the usual high-tensile size, and 14 and 17 gauge are used for electric lines. Zinc coating protects the wire, and Class 3 is the choice for longer life. Typical spools are a quarter mile (1,320 ft) or a half mile (2,640 ft).
Accessories can go on the same order: 8 gauge staples in 8 lb and 50 lb buckets, stretcher bars, wedges, smooth wire pullers and splicing sleeves. For a quote, list total footage, strand count, gauge, grade and coating, plus any tools and hardware. Axiom South ships nationwide.
