Wood Fence Posts
Wood fence posts in ground-contact treated pine and cedar, in 4×4, 4×6 and 6×6 sizes and 8, 10 and 12 ft lengths, for residential and commercial fences.
About Wood Fence Posts
Posts carry the whole fence, so we supply wood fence posts in treated pine and cedar in 4 x 4, 4 x 6 and 6 x 6 sizes, in 8, 10 and 12 ft lengths. Pine posts are ground-contact treated for insect, rot and fungal resistance.
Retention levels follow AWPA standards. ACQ retention is 0.15 lb/cu ft above ground and 0.40 lb/cu ft for ground contact; CA-B and CA-C levels are listed below. Treated lumber is more corrosive to steel than untreated wood, so use fasteners meeting ASTM A153 Class D, either hot-dip galvanized or ceramic-coated. Field-cut ends should get a copper naphthenate preservative.
For longer life, wood posts can pair with steel PostMaster systems. To quote, send post size, length, species, treatment level and count, along with any boards, rails and fasteners for the same job.

Installation notes
- Use fasteners rated for treated lumber, such as hot-dip galvanized (ASTM A153 Class D) or stainless steel.
- Field-cut ends should be treated with a copper naphthenate preservative (AWPA M4 recommends at least 2.0% copper metal).
- Higher retention is required where wood touches the ground than above ground.
Frequently asked questions
Why do ground-contact posts need more preservative?
AWPA retention levels are higher for ground contact than above ground for every copper-based treatment, to resist decay and insects.
What fasteners should I use?
Fasteners meeting ASTM A153 Class D or better, per treated-lumber guidance; ordinary bright steel will corrode.
