About Deckorators Joist & Flashing Tape

Water sitting on top of a joist is one of the main reasons deck framing rots early. Deckorators Joist & Flashing Tape goes on joist tops, rim joists and ledgers to shield the wood from water. It also seals screw holes against moisture and helps deck screws hold.

Two widths are available, both in 50 ft rolls: 1-5/8 in for single joists and 3-1/8 in for double joists and beams. The tape works over wood or composite deck understructures, and Deckorators recommends ProWood pressure-treated lumber for the framing. It also pairs with the Deckorators Sleeper system when decking over a concrete patio.

Deckorators guidance calls for about 2 in of clear space between joist bottoms and grade for ventilation, and a 1/4 in gap between long edges of deck boards. Check local code for footings. For a quote, estimate total linear feet of single joists, doubled joists and beams, rim and ledger.
