Round Wood Posts
Round wood posts are peeled, pressure-treated pine posts used as line, corner and brace posts on cattle, horse, wildlife and other farm fences.
About Round Wood Posts
Round wood posts are peeled round timber, usually pressure-treated pine, set as line, corner and brace posts on farm and ranch fences. They give a wood look that many owners prefer over steel T-posts, and they work for cattle, horse, deer and wildlife, sheep and goat, hog and small-animal fences. In cattle fencing they are commonly paired with hinge-joint woven wire and barbed wire.
Line posts run about 3-4 in or 4-5 in in diameter and 6-1/2 to 8 ft long. Corner and brace posts are 5-6 in or larger and 8 to 10 ft long. Posts are pressure-treated for ground contact (UC4A or higher). Use fasteners rated for treated lumber, since electroplated galvanized fasteners can corrode in contact with ACQ. Field-cut ends should get a copper naphthenate preservative; AWPA M4 recommends at least 2.0% copper metal.

Frequently asked questions
Why do ground-contact posts need more preservative?
AWPA retention levels are higher for ground contact than above ground for every copper-based treatment, to resist decay and insects.
What fasteners should I use?
Fasteners meeting ASTM A153 Class D or better, per treated-lumber guidance; ordinary bright steel will corrode.
