About Holdowns & Tension Ties
Holdowns resist overturning in shearwalls, connecting the end posts of a wall to the foundation or the floor below. Simpson Strong-Tie's HDUE is a six-size line that replaces the HDU, including the HDUE7, HDUE17 and HDUE25.
The HDUE has a predeflected seat and fastens with Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws. It is tested to ICC-ES AC155. Other holdown and tension tie families in this group include the HDU, HDQ, HHDQ, HD, HDB and LTT. Matching anchor products include the SB and SSTB anchor bolts, SET-3G epoxy and AT-3G acrylic adhesive for post-installed anchoring.
Holdown models and anchor sizes come from the structural drawings or the shearwall schedule, so the engineer's callouts should drive the order. For an itemized quote, send model numbers and quantities, the SDS screws required, and any anchor bolts or adhesive anchoring materials. Framing contractors and builders can bundle holdowns with hangers and post bases on the same quote.
