What to send for a faster quote

The details that let us quote accurately the first time, with a checklist, a table by product category, and the reasons quotes most often stall.

The fastest quotes start with dimensions, photos, and a clear idea of what you want. With those in hand, most quotes go out within 1 to 2 business days. Use the checklist below, add the category-specific details from the table, and you will avoid most of the back-and-forth that slows a quote down.

Send these eight things with every quote request.

  1. Plans or a sketch with dimensions. Architectural plans, a site plan, or a hand sketch on graph paper all work. Label every run length, corner, and opening.
  2. Photos of the site. Wide shots of the whole area plus close-ups of mounting points, stairs, and corners.
  3. Product, brand, and color preferences. Even “black aluminum, something simple” helps. If you have a brand in mind, name it.
  4. Quantities you already know. Number of gates, stair sections, posts, lights, or cabinets.
  5. Mounting surfaces. Wood framing, composite-clad deck, concrete slab, pavers, stone, or steel.
  6. Delivery ZIP code and site access. Note narrow streets, gates, steep drives, or whether a liftgate is needed.
  7. Timeline. When you want materials on site, and whether that date is fixed.
  8. Whether you need an installer. We supply the materials and are building a nationwide network of independent installers. Tell us if you want to search our Find an Installer page or already have a contractor.

You can send all of this through the quote form or by email to sales@axiomsouth.com. Partial information is fine. Send what you have and we will ask for the rest.

Each product category needs a few specific details.

CategoryWhat to send

Measure the way the materials will be built.

Good measurements follow the actual layout. A few habits that make a big difference:

  • Measure each straight run separately, corner to corner, rather than giving one total.
  • Measure stairs along the slope as well as giving the number of steps, since stair sections are sized differently from level sections.
  • Note the height of the walking surface above grade. Under the International Residential Code, guards are required on open sides of walking surfaces more than 30 inches above the floor or grade below (IRC R312.1.1), with a minimum guard height of 36 inches (IRC R312.1.2). Many jurisdictions amend these numbers, so confirm with your local building department.
  • Mark doors, columns, and anything the railing or fence has to stop at or work around.

Our article on how to measure for a railing quote walks through this step by step.

Photos answer questions measurements cannot.

A photo shows us things that do not fit on a sketch: whether the deck has a rim board wide enough for fascia mounts, whether a slab is level, whether a slope will affect fence panels, and what is near the gate opening. Take photos in daylight, from several angles, and include a tape measure in the frame for key dimensions. If you are not local, we can also do a short video call. If you are between Mobile and Pensacola, you can book an on-site design and measuring visit through Book a Visit.

These are the most common reasons quotes stall.

  • Total length only. “About 120 feet of railing” does not tell us how many corners, ends, or posts you need.
  • Unknown mounting surface. Mounts for wood, concrete, and steel are different parts.
  • Stairs left out. Stair sections, angled brackets, and taller stair posts are separate line items.
  • No color chosen. We can quote two colors side by side, but we need to know which ones.
  • Gates not counted. Each gate adds hardware, latches, and often extra posts.
  • No delivery ZIP. Freight is part of the quote, so we need to know where it is going.
  • Appliance specs missing. Outdoor kitchen cabinets are configured around the appliances, so model numbers matter.

Tell us how you plan to use the quote.

A homeowner comparing options needs something different from a contractor pricing a bid. Let us know if you want two or three product options side by side, a single firm package, or a budget number to plan around. Contractors bidding a project can send plan sets and bid dates, and we will tell you when to expect the takeoff. See For Professionals for trade accounts.

Frequently asked questions.

What if I do not have plans?

A hand sketch with dimensions and a few photos is enough to start. We can work from that and ask follow-up questions.

Do I need to know the brand I want?

No. Tell us the look, material, and color you like, and we can compare brands for you. Read how Axiom South helps for how we lay out options.

How long does a quote take?

Most quotes go out within 1 to 2 business days once we have measurements and product preferences. Large or complex projects can take longer, and we will tell you when to expect it.

Can I get a quote for just one item?

Yes. See one product or the whole package.

Gather what you can from the checklist above and send it through our quote form, or call 251-261-3091. To start comparing products now, browse railing and handrail.
