Railing Material Comparison
A side-by-side look at railing materials (aluminum, steel, composite, vinyl, cable and glass) to help contractors, architects and homeowners pick the right system before requesting a quote.
About Railing Material Comparison
Choosing a railing usually starts with the material. Aluminum is low maintenance, powder coated and does not rust. Steel is strong and slim but needs care for its coating, and coastal warranty coverage is often reduced. Composite brings a warm, wood-look finish. Vinyl or PVC is low maintenance, though color choices are more limited.
Cable railing opens up the view but needs periodic tension upkeep. Glass gives an unobstructed view and needs regular cleaning. Location matters too. RailMaster, for example, varies its warranty by material and distance from saltwater: aluminum carries 20 years residential, while steel carries 15 years residential but only 1 year within one mile of saltwater. For homes along the Gulf Coast and other waterfront areas, that difference can decide the material.
Once you have narrowed it down, send us the material you are leaning toward, total linear feet, stair runs, railing height, preferred color and your distance from saltwater. We will put together an itemized quote and can ship to all 50 states.
